FAFSA Information

Picture

Public Act 101-180, effective 6/01/20, requires that starting with the 2020-21 school year public high school students must complete the FAFSA, or alternative application, as a prerequisite to graduate high school.
To apply for federal student aid such as:
  • federal grants
  • federal loans
  • work-study programs
You need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing and submitting the FAFSA is free and straight-forward, and it gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or vocational school.

FAFSA opens every year on October 1st. The earlier you fill out the FAFSA, the better!
File your FAFSA
Contact Us

We encourage every student to file the FAFSA regardless of post high school plans. Filing the application not only gives practice for filling out these types of online documents, it also is good to have done just in case after high school plans change. It is always better to have the FAFSA filed early and plans change later, than to file the FAFSA late. If the student or parent is adamant about not filing the FAFSA application, a signed waiver form must be filed with the student's counselor to fulfill this graduation requirement.
